Following many visits to Paris over the years, we came to the conclusion that staying in an apartment was far preferable to staying in a hotel. Then when the opportunity arose to sell our Australian real estate investment, we decided to re-invest the proceeds in an apartment in Paris from which we could derive some personal advantages.

Our initial investigations into the type of apartments for sale in Paris and their costs consisted of collecting the free ‘for sale’ newspapers from stands outside various real estate agent’s offices. In one of these newspapers we saw an advertisement for Homelike Home, and we looked up the Homelike Home website which contained links to the Buyer’s Agents Associations websites.

We decided to select a Buyer’s Agent to assist us with our apartment investigations and picked three agents from the Associations’ lists that (a) specialised in apartments in Paris, and (b) had an English-language page on their website. In advance of our next planned visit to Paris, we emailed these three agents to set up appointments. Two responded of which one was Homelike Home.

We had an excellent introductory discussion with Christine and Lara of Homelike Home, but a very unprofessional interview with the other agency (after chasing around Paris to find their relocated office!). We very quickly decided which was the more professional and experienced agency!

We exchanged and refined details by email with Lara as to the location and type of apartment we would like. It is quite a challenge to be very specific when one has only a limited experience of the many different areas of Paris! However Lara assisted us to ‘distil’ our requirements.

For our subsequent visit, Lara assigned our excellent buyer’s agent Linda who, in spite of the paucity of properties available subsequent to the global financial crisis, found an apartment for us to buy which met virtually every one of our ‘distilled’ requirements and with which we are really satisfied.
